Historical Beginnings
4 Directions Child and Family Services Inc. opened the doors of its first group home in October of 2000, located on Muskowekwan First Nation in Treaty Four territory. The home was located in the former residential school of the First Nation which had been build in 1931. In July 2012, expansion occurred, and two new ten bed facilities were opened: Thunderbird Lodge and Makwa Lodge. As a licensed and legal stabilization and assessment centre, 4DCFS Inc. expanded once again, this time in Regina, Saskatchewan and opened Martha Cachene’s Home for Youth, a six bed for 12–15-year-old co-ed home. Over the next five years as the need for growth persisted four more homes were opened.
4 Directions Child and Family Services is a not for profit First Nation based organization governed by a Board of Directors. Members of the Board and the Board’s Elder are from First Nations in Treaty Four and they work together to ensure that 4DCFS Inc. provides superior services to First Nations children, youth and families.
